Stanley Yelnat’s family has a history of bad luck going back generations, so he is not too surprised when a miscarriage of justice sends him to Camp Green Lake Juvenile Detention Centre. Nor is he very surprised when he is told that his daily labour at the camp is to dig a hole, five foot wide by five foot deep, and report anything that he finds in that hole. The warden claims that it is character building, but this is a lie and Stanley must dig up the truth.

I thought this book was brilliant but also a bit strange at the same time. The book is about a boy called Stanley yelnats, he has been sent to a camp called camp green lake, which is a detention center for boys. Stanley got sent there because he was arrested for stealing some trainers which he did not do. Stanley has lot of bad luck because of a curse placed on his great Grandfather.
At Camp Green Lake Stanley makes friends, he was known as Caveman. His friends were Zero who couldnt write, and hardly spoke at all. Stanley teaches Zero how to read and write, his other friends are Armpit, Xray - he is the leader of the D Tent (that Stanley and his friend are in) agnet, Squid and zigzag.
Every single day the boys have to dig a hole that is 5 foot deep and 5 foot wide, the boys dont know why they are digging these holes but the Warden does - she is looking for something. This book is really exciting and i liked every chapter, it made me want to read on each time but sometimes it was too late before bedtime!
At the end of the book I felt happy because it was full of hope - Stanley carries Zero up Gods thumb, by doing this Stanley broke the Yelnats 150 year family curse , put on them by Madame Zeroni. Zero, who is Stanleys best friend - real name is Hector Zeroni.
You have to read this book, it wont disappoint you.
