August 1939: Britain is on the brink of war, and preparations are under way to evacuate London’s children. When Tilly and her friend Rosy find out that they will not be able to take their beloved dog and cat with them – and that, even worse, their pets will, along with other animals, be taken to the vet to be put down – they decide to take action. The two girls come up with the idea of hiding them in the woods and, when other children find out and start bringing their pets, their secret den turns into an emergency zoo.

Great books for parents to read with their children.
I really enjoyed this book. It is about two friends, Tilly and Rosy, who both have pets. They are in the middle of war, and then their parents
( and Rosy’s big sister as her parents are dead) want to kill their pets. They hide their pets in a shed in the woods, and then other people bring their pets too, so they can be saved. Rosy’s cat, Tinkerbell, dies, but then she finds a kittten abandoned in a house and keeps it and names it Dorothy.

This story is set in 1939- the WW2 period. I really liked this book. There are 2 12 year old girls called Tilly and Rosie. Rosie has a cat called Tinkerbell and Tilly has a dog called Bonny. Just as war breaks out, news is coming that the children will get evacuated and can't keep their pets-they have to put them down. They really love their animals so they find a way to look after their and their friend's pets. It's a lovely book, that I would recommend.
