What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We will collect any information that you provide to us when you:

  • Make any enquiry, provide feedback or otherwise contact us by phone, email, post, our website, or any of our social media accounts (such as our Instagram or Facebook pages) or apps.
  • Enter one of our competitions.
  • Submit a book review.
  • Create an account for our website

  • Home address: if we require your address to send you a prize for any competition won (e.g. reviewer of the month) then we will only retain your home address for as long as it takes to send the prize. We will then immediately delete your home address from our records.
  • Password and login details (if you create an account on our website)

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Why we collect this information

  • So that children can submit a book review
  • So that we can determine the age of a child when they write a review which will help us put the reviewed book in the correct age category.
  • So that a child will be able to set up their own “My Reading Den” page
  • So a user can set up a new password if they have forgotten the current one.
  • If we need to contact you with regards to a competition
  • If we need too update you with changes to our Terms and Conditions, Privacy policy or Cookies policy.

Where do we store your personal information and how is it kept secure?

Most of the information you provide us with will be transmitted electronically, e.g. information provided via the website. Information transmitted via the internet is not completely secure and although we will do our best to protect any information transmitted in this way, we cannot guarantee its complete security.

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical and electronic procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.

All information you provide to us will be stored on our secure servers located in the UK in tier 4 data centres. No information you provide to us is transferred to, or stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
